Juan Carlos graduated from Hanna High School in 1989. He attended the University of Texas-Brownsville and graduated with a Bachelor of Art in May 1996. He was employed as an English Teacher with the Brownsville School District for over 15 years.
He was diagnosed with cancer in December 2003, a disease he battled courageously for nineteen years. Through periods of illness and health, followed by a recurrence of cancer, multiple transplants and ensuing complications, until he lost his battle. He will be remembered by his loved ones for his strength, his will to live and fighting spirit, and his smile.
Juan Carlos is survived by his wife Mary Ann Echavarria; his daughter Samantha L. Gonzalez; his stepdaughter Lillian Gonzalez Przybylowicz; his stepdaughter Marcela Garcia; his stepson Jonathan Garcia; and his stepson Arthur Garcia III; his mother Juanita Gonzalez Putegnat; his brother Manuel Gonzalez Jr., his sister Sandra Gonzalez (Greg) Estes and his sister Patricia Gonzalez.
Juan Carlos was preceded in death by his father Manuel P. Gonzalez†.
A visitation for Juan Carlos will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM in Chapel of Peace at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521. A chapel service will occur Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM in Chapel of Peace, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521. Followed by a burial at 3:00 PM at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
Serving as pallbearers are Hector Alvarez, Jonathan Garcia, Arthur Garcia III, Jesus Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez and Jose Gonzalez III.
