Mary Celia Buckner

BUCKNER, Mary Celia McKethan, age 77 of Brooksville, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at HPH Hospice Care Center.  She was a 5th generation Hernando County resident native of Brooksville, Florida, but later lived in Largo and Brooksville, Florida, with her husband, Dr. Robert C. Buckner, with whom she was married for 55 years.  A loving mother, grandmother and spouse, she dedicated her life and time to her family, friends and community. 

A graduate of Hernando High School Class of 1954, alumna of the College of William & Mary class of 1958, she served her community and country as a proud citizen.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooksville, a sustainer of the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin, and a former member on the Board of Trustees of St. Paul’s School in Clearwater, as well as an active participant in other local civic activities.  She always strived to better her community and those around her.

Ever present within the lives of her parents, children and grandchildren, she was generous and supportive.  She loved learning, participating in family events and in later years traveling to visit her children and their families.  Her remaining family remains grateful for the love, time and devotion she afforded them during her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert C. Buckner and sister, Martha Ann McKethan Kimbrough, and her parents Alfred A. McKethan and Ruth C. McKethan.  Survivors include her sons & daughters-in-law:  Robert A. & Shelia Buckner of Brooksville, James C. & Muffet Buckner of Knoxville, TN and William M. Buckner of Houston, TX; grandchildren:  Bryn, Charles, Clark, Brooke, Lily, Manon & Scarlet.

Visitation for friends will be 5 – 7pm, Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel at 2 Lemon Ave.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am, Monday, July 15, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Brooksville, 250 Bell Ave., in Brooksville.  Burial will follow at Brooksville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HPH Hospice or First Presbyterian Church of Brooksville.
