Maura Lynch (nee Flavin) of Park Slope, Brooklyn, formerly of Manhattan and Ballyconry, County Kerry, Ireland, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2017, surrounded by her family. Maura was the beloved wife of the late Michael and the loving mother of Sean (Karen), Patrick (Linda), and Cay (John). Maura is also survived by the 7 grandchildren who brought such joy to her; Patrick, Brandon, Michael, Griffin, Conor, Grace and Faith. There are also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Ireland who will miss her terribly.
Maura loved her family, faith and heritage, regularly telling her children to keep in touch with each other, going to daily Mass and praying the rosary with her church friends as well as marching with the County Kerry contingent in the New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade for many years.
Before coming to America, Maura took great pride in training greyhounds for racing, walking miles to prepare the dogs to compete. No doubt this was the reason why she walked all over Manhattan and Brooklyn!
When Maura arrived in America she stayed with John and Anna Ferris and formed life-long friendships with her American cousins, the “Ferris” girls(Kay, Helen, Nancy and Miriam), which continue today between Maura’s children and the children of the “Ferris” girls!
Maura will be missed by all who knew her, but more importantly, she will be remembered for who she was.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 14 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home, 255 9th Street, Brooklyn NY.
A prayer service will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 9:30am at the Church of Saint Saviour, 611 8th Avenue, Brooklyn NY
