Margaret A. Walsh, known affectionately as “Miss Peggy” to her students, passed away on May 19, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on August 3, 1929, in Harlem, New York. Margaret led a life filled with love, dedication and joy. Margaret graduated from Kingsborough Community College and Brooklyn College, pursuing a career as a teacher’s aid with the NYC Board of Education. She worked at PS 321, where she touched the lives of countless students with her kindness and dedication. In 1952, Margaret married Thomas F. Walsh. Following their divorce she married George LaFante in 1970, with whom she shared many happy years until his death in 1982. Margaret is survived by her brother, William Flaherty. Her children Patricia Szczygielski, Gary Walsh, William Walsh and his wife Kim, her grandchildren Tara Chase and her husband Sam, Margo Cohen and her husband Matthew, Andrew, Devin Lee and William Jr. Walsh, her great- grandchildren Elbridge 5th and Elliott Chase, Aidan and Callie Cohen. She was predeceased by her parents, Ida and James Flaherty, her brothers James Jr., Joseph and his wife Francis, Thomas Flaherty, her brother Williams’ wife Katherine and her favorite son-in-law Anthony Szczygielski. Margaret loved life and as everyone’s “Nana”, she will be cherished by all who knew her and will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
