Known for his unwavering dedication to his family, friends and neighbors, John was a generous man who deeply cared for his loved ones. Whether it was chauffeuring a neighbor to a doctor’s appointment or joyfully picking up his grandchildren from school, his kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
John was born to Archangelo and Maria on Aug. 28, 1926 in Jersey City and was one of six brothers and sisters—Luco, Rose, Fay, Tom and Peggy. John bravely served as a paratrooper in the Korean War before meeting his wife Jean, with whom he was married for over 60 years.
A dedicated worker, John devoted many years to Cosmo Mech, where he was the only person in the U.S. who knew how to skillfully operate and fix a specialized Japanese spring machine. John continued contributing his skills even after retirement, providing guidance to various spring companies until shortly before his passing.
John loved old Western movies, video poker, and, most importantly, his cherished great-grandchildren. His love for them was immeasurable.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Gina Poggi, and his granddaughters and son-in-laws, Jeanine Poggi Alfredo and Alex Alfredo, and Danielle and William Lembo. John's legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Jonathan Alfredo, and Lucy and Theodore Lembo. He is now reunited with his wife Jean Abbaticchio, who passed away in 2016.
May he rest in peace, forever remembered for his strength, devotion and the love he shared with all who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Cusimano & Russo Funeral Home, 2005 West 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223.
