Dr. Stuart S. Fay, age 90 of Fitchburg, MA, on Saturday, December 18, 2021. For 65 years, he was the beloved husband of Beatrice (Medoff) Fay. Loving father of Rachel Cortez & her husband Luis of Lexington, MA, Jethra Fay of Waltham, Dr. Aaron Fay & his wife Myriam Wright of Lexington, MA and the late Joshua Fay, formerly of Cambridge, MA. Adored grandfather of Gabriela and Maya Cortez, and Jonah, Noa and Sophie Fay.
Dr. Fay was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 17, 1931. He attended Erasmus Hall High School before going to Tufts University. He went on to Tufts Medical School where he met the love of his life, Beatrice Medoff. Following his internship at St. Luke’s Hospital in Manhattan, he joined the US Navy where he was stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He worked as an internist at Sperry Gyroscope in Long Island before joining a residency in ophthalmology at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. Upon graduating, Dr. Fay opened his ophthalmology practice in Fitchburg, a community he served for more than 50 years.
Dr. Fay was devoted to his family and to his patients. He also enjoyed hiking, gardening, opera, poetry, cooking, and was a lifelong learner of math and science.
Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 268 Washington St., Leominster on Tuesday, December 21 at 12 noon. Masks and vaccinations are required. Burial will be in Agudas Achim Cemetery on Rollstone Road in Fitchburg.
Memorial Observance will be held at the Fay-Wright home, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm; and Saturday 6-8pm.
