Sarah Hannah (Mazur) Goldstein, of Dedham, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with her loved ones at her bedside. Born in Worcester, MA on October 2, 1934 and resided at NewBridge on the Charles and Highland Beach, FL.
Married for 40 years to the love of her life, the late Harvey Goldstein, who passed away in 1994 after a long battle with cancer. Beloved daughter of the late Fannie & Abraham Mazur who emigrated from Russia. Sister of the late Bernard Mazur and niece of Emma Cherkofsky. Survived by loving and devoted daughters, Beverly Inguanti, Sandra Goldstein-Davis, son-in-law Jeffrey Davis, and grandchildren Michael and Rachel Davis, nephew Mark & his wife Sandy and their son Ethan Mazur.
As a teenager Sarah worked at her family store, “Mazur’s”, on Chandler St. in Worcester. The store was a drug store and first lending book library. An early advocate for women, Sarah worked at the shelter for Domestic Violence in Worcester. She also supported and was on the board of Hope Lodge in Worcester. After she brought up her family, she went back to Clark University and finished her degree with a major in psychology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Sarah worked for many years, first by her husband’s side, and then continued after his passing in the many family businesses. Throughout Sarah’s life she demonstrated a unique ability to write poetry that reflected her deep feelings about people and life.
Sarah had an uncommon ability to connect with people, family and friends. Sarah touched everyone she knew with her generosity and genuine compassion and tenderness.
Services at the Levine Chapel, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on Monday, April 30 at 11:00am. Interment immediately following at B’Nai Brith Cemetery, St. John Rd, Worcester.
Memorial observance at NewBridge on the Charles for family and close friends on Monday from 3:00-6:00pm. Open visitation on Tuesday from 3-6pm.
Wednesday visitation at the home of Sandra & Jeffrey Davis from 3-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or the MSPCA-Angell.
