Marilyn Tarlow passed away peacefully and comfortably in Needham on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Marilyn was born in Waltham, Mass. to Harry and Eva Weinstein (nee Needel). Marilyn had two younger siblings, Mort and Lois, who predeceased her. Her family home in Waltham was filled with love, laughter, and good Jewish food. Her father, Harry, operated markets and a "spa" (small diner) in Waltham. Her mother worked at Grover Cronin's for many years.
Marilyn attended Massachusetts College of Art, where she received a BA. She also received an MA in Art Therapy from Lesley University.
Marilyn taught art, design and art history at Curry College and Simmons College. She was a working painter, with a studio on A Street in Boston, for many years. Her paintings were shown at galleries and museums in Boston and the Berkshires.
Marilyn married William Tarlow in 1951. Bill, who lives in Springhouse in Jamaica Plain, was the co-owner with his brother of the FootJoy shoe company. Bill and Marilyn shared many interests -- travel, books, politics, movies, and art. Marilyn and Bill were early participants in the anti-war movement during the Vietnam era.
Marilyn and Bill lived in Brockton, Brookline, Back Bay, and then moved to Springhouse in 2014. They shared a summer home in the Berkshires for many years. Wherever she lived, Marilyn created a beautiful home with her sense of style and design.
Marilyn leaves behind her children Steven Tarlow and Linda Levi of Teaneck NJ, Ellen Tarlow and David Hornung of Queens NY, and Daniel and Ronna Tarlow of Brookline, Mass. Marilyn also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Naomi Tarlow and Daniel Newman, Eli Tarlow and Sam Tarlow.
She was a remarkable women, full of life and creativity, who will be remembered and missed by all those upon whom she shone her light.
