Joy Brickner Rabinowitz of Brookline, MA passed away on November 7, 2023.
Joy was born on December 8, 1920 to Rabbi Barnett R. Brickner and Rebecca Brickner in Cincinnati, Ohio.After graduating from Shaker Heights High School, she went on to study Psychology at Wellesley College, graduating in 1941, and Simmons College of Graduate Studies in 1942. She returned to college and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Smith College of Social Work in 1958. Joy worked at Children’s Services of Roxbury, Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the Judge Baker Guidance Center, and Boston Children's Services. With Edward Stone, she published The Bridge to the Delinquent Child concerning their work with juvenile delinquents and their families.
Joy was a wonderful mother and a well-loved member of the Boston community. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel and son, Peter. She is survived by her son, Michael of Birmingham, AL and daughter, Wendy Gralnek of Scottsdale, AZ, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Services will be held at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on Monday, November 13 at 11am. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
