Efrat Adler Porat, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and esteemed art historian, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, she grew up in a vibrant city rich in culture and history. She proudly served in the Israeli Army, embodying a deep commitment to her homeland.
Her life took an exciting turn when she moved to the United States with her husband to pursue higher education. She earned her master’s degree in Art History from Tufts University, where her passion for art blossomed into a lifelong dedication. An independent art historian, she became renowned for her meticulous research on the works of Dennis Miller Bunker, providing invaluable insights to the study of this influential artist and contributing to the dedicated exhibition on him at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
More recently, Efrat devoted herself to curating an extraordinary and unique collection of 19th-century depictions of the Holy Land, blending her scholarly expertise with her love for art that captures the beauty and meaningfulness of her homeland.
She was the cherished wife of David, with whom she shared 63 years of love and partnership. Together, they built a family that she nurtured with warmth and devotion. She was the loving mother of Zohar (Tim Gorman) and Darya (Brad Schwartz), and a proud grandmother to Arielle, Eden, Coby, and Remy, each of whom carries forward her legacy of curiosity, creativity, and kindness.
Efrat Porat will be remembered for her sharp intellect, artistic vision, and the love and beauty she poured into every aspect of her life. Her family, friends, and the community she developed mourn the loss of a remarkable woman whose contributions will continue to inspire for generations to come.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 12 pm at Mohliver Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA and can be joined by livestream at www.levinelive.com/efratadlerporat
Immediately following the service, mourners are invited to sit shiva with the family at the home of Zohar and Tim Gorman. Additional shiva hours on Monday, from 5 – 7pm.
