Richard "King Richard" Ortiz passed away peacefully next to his family at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee on September 30, 2024. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on February 10, 1960, to the late Raymond Ortiz and Virginia Vincent (late Seth Vincent Sr. raised Richard and was recognized as his father).
Richard was an avid reader from early childhood. Richard received his high school education from Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI), graduating in 1980. He relocated to Madison, WI after graduating from WCBVI where he helped operate and manage a local coffee shop. He had fond memories of this time in Madison. This environment grew Richard's desires to help others and become a humble servant. Richard prided himself on being knowledgeable on many subject matters and could talk with anyone about politics, world news, and other important topics.
In 1984, Richard met the love of his life and longtime companion (wife), Dawn (Shields) Ortiz.
Along his journey, he continued his education by attending Milwaukee Theological Institute (MTI), attaining an Associate Degree in Christian Ministry and Theology. After obtaining his degree from MTI, he volunteered for Christian Record Services in the role of Ministry for Disabled Adults and Disabled Young Children.
Richard loved country music and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO). He was a longtime member of the Symphony. He made new friends wherever he went and developed long standing relationships with several doctors and staff members at St. Luke's Medical Center. Richard was referred to as "King Richard" at St. Luke's Medical Center.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 39 years, Dawn (Shields) Ortiz; brothers and sisters, Raymond Ortiz (preceded in death), Irys Ortiz, Miriam Ortiz and Seth (Erica) Vincent Jr.; nieces and nephews, Karmen Ortiz, Stacey Ortiz, Edwin (Eliza) Ortiz, Rycardo (Laura) Morales, Pedro Lebron, Cindy Medina, Auerlio Medina, David Medina, Isaac Ali, Daeric McKinley, Seth Vincent III, Mia Vincent, and a host of great nieces and nephews.
