Born to Eternal Life 12/13/2024, age 95 years
Kenneth was born in Sheboygan, WI on June 26, 1929, to the late Caroline and Allen J. Elmergreen, Sr.
Kenneth (Kenny) was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Margaret. He is survived by dear children; Anna (Lee) Mayer, John (Judy) Elmergreen, Carol (Mark) Runzheimer, Nancy Elmergreen, and Thomas (Michelle) Elmergreen. Cherished grandchildren; Joe Elmergreen, Janice (Travis) Rush, Jerod (Alicia Rodriguez) Green, Kari Jo (Jason) Fleming, Marc (Jenna) Mayer, Cory Mayer, Aric (Morgan) Runzheimer, Evan (Joanne) Runzheimer and Lauren Elmergreen. Great-grandchildren; Brandon, SJ, Tessa, Audrey, Colin, Cormac, Calvin, Wesley, and Jack. Further survived by loving sister Virginia Zastrow of Sheboygan and Bradenton, FL, and by countless other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by brothers Allen, Richard, and Ronald.
Kenny proudly served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952 where he was a Technical Sergeant in the Signal Corps, stationed in Okinawa. After he was honorably discharged, he worked at Wisconsin Telephone where he remained loyal for 42 years, and where special friendships were formed and lasted his lifetime. He never forgot about his Telephone Pioneers of America or Bell Telephone Post 0427.
Kenny loved socializing and storytelling, couples bowling leagues, playing horseshoes and cribbage, going out for fish fries, and countless games of “Thirty-One.” He looked forward every June to his annual fishing trip to Canada with his father-in-law, Andrew (Happy) Otte, and annual trips to Wisconsin’s Northwoods with the Reid’s, Handschke’s, and Ettmayer’s. He truly enjoyed and was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved helping at their wrestling matches, watching their cross-country races, going to their hockey games and to their dance recitals. He couldn’t get enough of looking at photos of them and hearing about their competitive spirits.
Visitation will take place Saturday, December 21, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m., at Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, and will include a brief time outdoors for military honors at the conclusion of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Courtyard at Sussex or Allay Hospice would be appreciated. Kenny’s family thanks them all for their care, patience, friendship, and kindness. He would want them all to grab one last Andes Candies. A special thanks also goes to the nurse in the family, Kenny’s daughter Carol, for all her guidance, expertise, and attention.
