David Russell Lawrence

He grew up in Rome, Georgia attending Darlington School from 1st through 12th grade, where he lettered in basketball and football, sang in the Chorale and the Boys Quartet. David graduated from Vanderbilt University, where he was an outstanding All-SEC punter on the Vanderbilt Football Team and was selected to play in the All-Star Blue/Gray game in 1992. After graduation, David spent 19 years in the restaurant industry and later years as an agent in the insurance business in Nashville, Tennessee.

David was a devoted son, brother, and father and enjoyed all sports, cooking, singing, playing guitar, and attending concerts. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children attending their sports events, school functions, and activities, and just being with them.

He is survived by his parents, Diane and Herman Lawrence, his brother Eric Lawrence (Gina), his children Ashley Kate Lawrence, David Russell Lawrence, Jr., Sarah Grace Lawrence, and Philip Andrew Lawrence, his nieces Margaret Ann Lawrence, Ashleigh Rose Ritz and nephews William Louis Ritz, III, and Connor James Ritz.

A memorial service will be held in Rome, Georgia, on October 24, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Garden Lakes Baptist Church 2200 Redmond Circle, Rome, Georgia 30165. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

The family requests donations in David’s name to the Garden Lakes Baptist Church, the Vanderbilt Football Program, or charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
