Brian Joseph Sweeney Sr.

SWEENEY, Brian Joseph “Joe”, age 85, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2013 with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his son, Brian Joseph Sweeney, Jr. Mr. Sweeney is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary K. Sweeney; children, Kathleen (Johnny) Freeman, Sean (Joan) Sweeney, Kevin Sweeney and Bill (Jena) Sweeney; grandchildren, John Freeman, Kirk (Martha) Freeman, Trey (Kate) Freeman, Sean Freeman, Mary Freeman, Craig Williams, Bridget (Wes) Fitzgerald, Shannon (Patrick) Ihrie, Patrick Sweeney, Michael Sweeney, Billy Sweeney and Caroline Sweeney; great grandchildren, Garrett Freeman, Ethan Freeman, Layla Freeman, Houston Fitzgerald, and Margo Ihrie; sister, Sharon (Bill) Quinn and sister-in-law, Dell Sweeney. Mr. Sweeney was a District Manager at Shell Oil Company for 35 years. He served as City Commissioner/Mayor of Brentwood from 1972-2011. He was outgoing, a people person to say the least and never met a stranger. He was a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather and always full of wisdom and wit. He was very proud of his family and loved his Irish heritage.  A visitation will be held from three until eight o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 11th of September, 2013 at Brentwood Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 12th of September at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Patrick Breen officiating. A visitation will be held from eight thirty in the morning until the service time at the church on Thursday. Pallbearers are Mr. Sweeney’s grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are The Brentwood City Council and Staff Employees. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Edward’s Catholic School or to the Aquina’s College.
