Rodney Willard Hamilton was born on March 24, 1941 to Mary Tyler and Willard Hamilton. Rodney grew up with his loving sisters, Sandra and Tijuana in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Western High School, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a radar man helping guide aircrafts while on their missions. Rodney received a medal of honor during his navy tenure and having served admirably, finished his term with an honorable discharge.
Rodney welcomed his first son Rodney, Jr. in 1969, and shortly following, met the love of his life, Victoria, in Washington, D.C. He and Victoria began to raise a family in Forest Heights, Maryland, before building their dream home together in Mitchellville, Maryland.
Rodney had an extensive career in government working as an analyst and retiring as program manager for the Department of Defense Nuclear Agency. After retirement, he became more involved in his hobbies, which included household projects. Fixing something was always his thing.
Affectionately known as Mr. H, or Pops, Rodney became known as "everyone's dad." His personality was big, and his spirit was even bigger, drawing folks in with his warm-hearted nature. If ever you asked him how he was doing, he would always reply, “I’m blessed.” His favorite thing to do was to be around family and friends. From backyard gatherings to the simplest of garage hangouts, family meant everything to him. You could count on "Pops" to give tough love and even tougher grace. He was just that special.
Rodney was known for his love of smooth jazz music and all things CHOCOLATE. You could always make him smile with something sweet. Rodney is survived by his children Rodney Jr., Mark (Nicole), Todd (Christina), Taihitia (Dennard), and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always remember him as their "Pop-Pop." He is survived by his sister Tijuana and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Sandra, son Christopher, and wife Victoria.
