He was born on June 16, 1953 in El Paso, TX to the late Col. Joseph E. Melanson, Jr. and the late Frances Melanson.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Melanson, his loving son, Thommy Melanson and a special nephew, Billy Black. He is also survived by his siblings, John Melanson, Bill Melanson (Geri), Peggy Melanson, Bob Melanson (Sharon) and Mary Rider (Mark).
Ed was an Army brat and he grew up in Alexandria, VA as well as the various duty stations where his Dad was assigned. He especially loved his time living in Heidelberg, Germany. He went to Heidelberg High School and his graduation ceremony was held at the Heidelberg Castle. After graduation, he returned home and began his 30 year career working for the Department of the Navy. He was an avid photographer and loved photographing wildlife, nature and landscapes. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and listening to all types of music.
A graveside service and interment will be private. Interment: Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
