John Gary Lewis

We are sad to announce that on July 8, 2022 at the age of 77 John Gary Lewis passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Cheverly, Maryland on June 19, 1945 to loving parents James (Amos) and Margaret Lewis (predeceased). He was a long time resident of Bowie, Maryland and is a graduate of Bladensburg High School. John worked with his father at the family boat center in Colmar Manor, MD for many years and then went on to own his own home remodeling business in Bowie, MD and worked for 30 plus years. John's hobby of researching his family's genealogy was his passion and locating all of his "cousins" was his dream.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years (his high school sweetheart) Bonnie Waddell Lewis, his daughter Pam Shaffer(Fred ) of Crofton, MD, his son Timothy Lewis (Brenda) of Crownsville, Md. A proud grandfather to grandchildren: Ben Shaffer(Katherine), Matthias J. Lewis Valentin(Bonnie), Josh Shaffer, Kevin Lewis, Ashley Lewis and great grandfather to Lilianafae “Lewis” Valentin. John is also survived by his brother James Leonard Lewis(Lynn ) of Abilene, Texas.

Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 12:30pm at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home at 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland 20722. Funeral service will occur on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 1:30pm at Fort Lincoln and burial will occur at 2:30pm on July 21, 2022.
