Jocelyn Clark Ferguson was born in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 1963, to Thomas and Shirley Clark. She was the second eldest daughter of three. On Thursday, March 10, 2022, our angel quietly entered into her eternal rest.
Jocelyn was educated in the DC Public school system, where she was a proud graduate of McKinley Tech Senior High School. She also attended Washington School for Secretaries and the University of the District of Columbia. Jocelyn married Russell D. Ferguson on August 14, 1987, and through their union nurtured and raised their two beautiful daughters, Brittany F. Burroughs and Lauren M. Ferguson.
Jocelyn was a diligent worker who lived by the motto, “Work unto God, Not unto Man”. She spent her early career with the Department of Agriculture, Syscon, and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Jocelyn spent the rest of her professional career as an Executive Assistant at MedStar Health.
Jocelyn was a faithful member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church from the time of her baptism in 1978. During this time, she served on several ministries in varying capacities. Jocelyn loved evangelism, and she felt that everyone should have their own personal relationship with Christ. She thoroughly enjoyed helping with the planning of the Christian Women’s Fellowship affirmation Sunday each year. She was also a 2015 graduate of Divine Discipleship for Sisters at First Baptist Church of Glenarden.
Jocelyn loved the Lord with her whole heart, and next to that was her love for her family. Everything revolved around her house, it was always filled with family and friends. It was the meeting spot, after church hangout, birthday, graduation and all around go-to place for gatherings. She welcomed and loved anyone who walked through those doors.
Jocelyn is survived by her loving husband Russell Ferguson. What started as a childhood friendship blossomed into a loving and enduring marriage for 34 years. She also leaves to cherish her memories her loving daughters, Brittany (Brandon) and Lauren, Jocelyn’s heart, her grandsons, Brandon II and Bryce Burroughs, her devoted mother, Shirley Clark, and sisters, Yolanda Barnes (Michael) and Marnie James, along with a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family and close friends.
