Eugene Roberson Jr, son of the late Eugene Roberson Sr. and Earle Rose McGuinn Roberson, was born on May 19, 1937 in Washington, D.C. On Thursday, September 10, 2020, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
Eugene was a faithful and active member of Campbell A.M.E Church from childhood until present. Eugene attended D.C Public Schools and graduated from Armstrong Senior High School in 1955. He also attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and graduated with an Associated Degree in 1958. While attending Bradley University, he served in the Washington D.C. National Guard. After graduation from college, Eugene joined the Washington, D.C. Police Department in 1961.
Eugene spotted the love of his life Lorraine Proctor at a social gathering among family and friends. He asked her parents for her hand in marriage and the two were married on Saturday, April 26, 1958. Eugene and Lorraine were married for over 62 years. In fact, in April 2008, Eugene and Lorraine, along with family and friends renewed their wedding vows on their Golden Anniversary. During the union of their marriage, they had three loving children, Deborah L. Roberson, Michael E. Roberson (Vicki), and Kurt E. Roberson (Paula). Four beautiful grandchildren, Donte E. Roberson (Stephanie), Courtney N. Roberson, Justin I. Roberson, Kayla M. Roberson, and two great grandchildren Noah and Chloe.
One of his favorite pastimes was boating, he enjoyed every aspect of the sport. He was a member of the following organizations: Seafarers of Annapolis, Maryland, Past Commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla (75) of Annapolis, Maryland, United States Power Squadron, Potomac River Power Squadron (served as the Safety Officer for 17 years), Chesapeake Cruiser Association. He was also a member of the Masons (Prince Hall affiliation) and he joined the order of Easter Star. He was the Patron of Naomi Chapter #9 and Fidelity Chapter #10.
He is survived by his beloved wife and children, sister Lydia R Taylor (Frank), brother Walter M. Roberson, two aunts Sarah Mason and Helen Wilkerson, four sisters-in-law LaVerne Glascoe, Janet Gasaway (Howard), Susie Proctor, and Colicchio Proctor, and a host of family and friends. Special thank you to Linda Clyburn and Vesta for their compassionate caregiving of Eugene.
