Dora Lee Bynum Samuel was born October 12, 1922 to a loving mother, Nicee Doggett, in Halifax County, North Carolina. At age six, after her mother’s death, Dora was reared by Susie Bynum. Doral peacefully answered the Master’s Call on Sunday July 21, 2019 at Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home in Washington, DC. She was blessed to live to the age of 96.
Dora attended Halifax County Schools in North Carolina. She relocated to the Washington, DC area at an early age. It was here that she met and was united in holy matrimony to Otha Samuel until his death in 1999. Dora is also preceded in death by her siblings: John E. Doggett, Nannie Doggett Peterson and Ethel Doggett-Staton and a cherished god-son, Raymond Miller.
Dora was a homemaker and forged a career as a housekeeper for other families--- who adored her. Dora was a faithful member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Washington, DC , where she was a member of the Paradise Chorus for sixty years, showcasing her talent as a great soprano singer. Shopping, traveling, dancing and listening to music were other pastimes she enjoyed. Dora had a delightful personality and always made you laugh or smile.
Dora leaves to cherish her memory: nephew/caretaker John Bynum (Deborah), beloved god-daughter Marie Hobbs (Gene), Dorothy Grey, Kathleen Hunter, Arellia Bynum-Hinton, Joan La-Touch-Cook, Randy Samuel, Dorothy Crowell-Grey, Jackie Booth, Selena Bynum, Hattie Bynum, Yvonne Williams, Lois Williams, Lisa Bynum-Hinton, Alfreda Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will mourn her death and celebrate her life and memories.
