

Cherrlyn graduated from Winston Salem-Forsyth Public Schools and matriculated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cherrlyn also received her master’s degree in the Science of Nursing at Howard University.
Her first job as a registered nurse was with Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, N.C. Cherrlyn later moved to Maryland and worked as a registered nurse at Howard University Hospital, Washington, DC. Cherrlyn served in a variety of areas and nursing capacity to include Emergency Room Department Registered Nurse and Clinical Service Manager, where she was instrumental in ensuring that ER nurses were Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certified; and that Trauma Nursing Core Course/Emergency Nurses Association was a part of her staffs’ skills and membership.
She served as a Nurse Educator, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Endoscopy as the manager. During her professional career, Cherrlyn also worked as an educator and clinical instructor at Howard University School of Nursing and the University of District of Columbia. She retired from Howard University Hospital after forty-two years of service in 2024. During professional career Cherrlyn built valuable relationships and lifelong friendships. She was truly valued and respected by her colleagues.
Cherrlyn met her husband and lifelong companion Harry “Shane” Jones in April 1985. They wed on August 19, 1989. Cherrlyn and Shane were blessed with two wonderful children.
Cherrlyn and her family were members of Isle of Patmos Baptist Church. In her spare time Cherrlyn loved to spend time with her family and travel. Cherrlyn was also an avid reader and enjoyed going out with her friends.
She became a member of the Washington DC Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Inc. an international nonprofit professional service organization for registered professional nurses and student nurses, Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing, second largest nursing organization, a highly prestigious organization within the nursing profession.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt, affectionately called, “Doll”.
She is survived by her husband, Shane, her sons Ryan and Justin; sister, Artrice Martin; brother, Benny (Virginia) Wofford; niece, Shantae (Ernest) Britton and Arnita (Matthieu) Wofford-Allain; nephew, Tim Matthews, Jr.; and stepchildren Jason and LaFonda Jones; and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Inc. and/or National Cancer Society in her honor.
