Obituary
CHARLES EDWARD WILLIAMS, SR. was born on June 12, 1939, in Hickory, North Carolina, to the late Eli and Virgina Williams. He was the oldest of seven children. On Friday, June 7, 2024, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC, Charles went home to be with the Lord.
Charles attended public schools in Hickory and graduated in 1957 from Ridgeview High School, where he played basketball. After high school he moved to Washington, DC and began his employment with the Marriott Corporation. At Marriott, Charles held several positions and played basketball for the Hot Shoppe. He retired in 1994 as a professional truck driver.
Charles gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Springfield Baptist Church after moving to Washington, DC. He was an active Alumni of Ridgeview High School until his health failed. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite team was the Washington Commanders. He was active in the community and served on the Neighborhood Watch Orange Hat for many years. His infectious positive energy brought joy to everyone around him. He was humorous, friendly, and deeply loved his family!
Charles was preceded in death by four siblings: two brothers, Glenn Richard Williams and Eli Thomas Williams, Jr. and two sisters, Maggie Elaine Rogers, and Linda Virginia Williams.
He will be greatly missed by, his devoted wife of 61 years Gendell, two sons Charles, Jr., and Carlton; one bonus daughter, Sylvia Pauling; two sisters, Doris Ann Todd, and Betty Jean Williams; four sisters-in-law, Cassie Wilson, Dorothy Olive, Carolyn Haynes, and Elnora Lewis; three brothers-in-law, Willie Olive, Vernon Lewis, and Karl Haynes. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
