William Joseph “Bill” Macdonald, 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 11,2022 at Desired Peace Health Care in Discovery Bay, California after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on December 14, 1935, the son of the late Jerome MacDonald and the late Myra (Douga) MacDonald. Bill graduated from Gloucester High School in 1954. Immediately after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for 4 years, spending most of his time on the USS LEYTE aircraft carrier.
On March 3, 1962, Bill married the love of his life, Mary Faye Souza. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before Mary passed on May 26, 2020. Bill was a union electrician and proud member of IBEW Local 103 in Boston. He just received his pin for 55-years of service. He spent the last twenty years of his career working for Mass Electric Construction Co. Bill retired in November 2003. Once Bill retired, he enjoyed traveling out to the West Coast to visit his son Scott and his family. He enjoyed helping everyone out and was known to help his friends and family with household projects. In his leisure time, he enjoyed building models of sailboats and Navy ships.
Bill was a family man. His wife and children were his pride and joy. Being a father and becoming a grandfather brought him so much joy.
He was predeceased by his sister, Janie Parks and brother, Jerry Macdonald as well has his son, William Jr in infancy and his daughter Heather (MacDonald) Ahordini on August 1, 2019.
He is survived by his son and his son’s wife, Scott and Katie MacDonald of California and his son Jamie MacDonald of Salam, Massachusetts; grandchildren Mckayla, Mary-Kate, and Scott MacDonald Jr of California; his beloved sister, Judy Starr of Braintree and brother, Ronny MacDonald of Gloucester; son-in-law Christopher Ahordini if Beverly and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
