It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Patricia Papazian. Patricia was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She was a long time member for 57 years of St.Vartan Armenian Church in Oakland. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack. They were married for 68 years.
Patricia was a star basketball player at Northwestern High School in Detroit. When World War II broke out she went to work at a converted Ford Motor plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan building B- 24 bombers. Patricia's job was riveting - she was truly "Rosie the Riveter". On December 26, 1944 she married Jack Papazian in Oakland, California. Jack was serving in the U.S. Navy until the end of the war.
Patricia and Jack eventually settled in San Leandro and later in Fremont, where they raised their five children. Patricia worked for Safeway Stores for many years and retired in 1982. Her love and her life were her children Jack Jr. (Tamara), George (Debora), Andrew (Cheryl), Harry, and Ann (Michael) and her 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Pat was absolutely loved and adored by her family.
Patricia was a tireless volunteer at her beloved Church. She could always be counted on to help with any activity, fund raiser or dinner, and caring and comforting those needing help. Everyone who knew Pat benefited from her friendship and love. Pat had the ability to light up a room with her humor and smile. Pat was a terrific cook and baker. She loved having everyone over for a big family dinner. She was always baking cakes or cookies and sharing with her neighbors, friends, the post man, garbage man, UPS driver and anyone else that was nearby.
Funeral services will be held at St.Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church on Tuesday, May 3 at 11 A.M. and grave site services and interment at Belmont Cemetery Fresno, California on Wednesday, May 4 at 12:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St.Vartan Armenian Church, 650 Spruce St, Oakland, Ca. 94610
