We celebrate the life of Adeline Thorn. Born on June 12th, 1940, in Christy, California, to José and Josephina Orozco, Adeline is survived by her two sons, Eric Close-Thorn and Leonard Thorn, along with her twin sister Helen, and siblings Carman, Eleanor, and Nelly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Adeline and Helen were the second youngest of twelve children, and throughout their childhood, they were inseparable. They shared several classes and always made sure to find each other during photo sessions, even when separated by different classes, to pose side by side. One cherished memory Helen recalls is when Adeline began dating; she remembers Adeline’s boyfriend having a nice car and she describing him as a "Great Kisser."
Nelly fondly remembers their time together when they were left alone to tackle their chores. Adeline would turn these tasks into a fun competition to see who could clean their area best while blasting Rock & Roll music. After completing their chores, they would change into swimsuits, descend the stairs, and soak up the sun for a while before Adeline prepared a delightful dinner. Eleanor reminisces about the sisters' nights out dancing as adults, where, when approached to dance, Adeline would cheekily ask, "Which one do you want to dance with? You should know how you want to dance with.” This often left the person asking to dance surprised, sometimes causing them to walk away in disbelief. That was quint-essen-tial Adeline.
In her later years, Adeline married Brian, whom she met while line dancing, and they had two wonderful children, Eric and Len. They moved to West Covina before returning to Concord. After Twelve years of marriage, Brian and Adeline divorced. Following their separation, she became a Registered Nurse Assistant and worked at Valley Manor Rehabilitation until her retirement in 2008. After retiring, she traveled to Graceland to see the King, Elvis, and enjoyed a birthday cruise to Mexico, where she showcased her exceptional negotiation skills—at one point, they even owed her money!
Adeline was the person we all turned to in times of trouble; she was our stronghold. We will forever carry her spirit with us and remember that whenever we face challenges, we can draw strength from her memory, knowing that we can overcome anything. She was the rock and the glue that bound us together, and though she may no longer be with us physically, her spirit will always be present in our hearts.
