Walter was born on September 30, 1939 in Oakland, California to Walter and Vera Shelton. He grew up in Modesto, California. After graduating high school, he joined the US Navy.
While in the service, he was stationed in California, Viet Nam, Alaska, Japan, and retired in Washington state.
Walter was a proud American veteran and loved his country. He was a Viet Nam vet and served on the USS Dixie and USS Oklahoma City.
He then started a career with Vitro Corporation as a Financial Analyst and retired in 2004.
Walter married the love of his life, Miyoko Kanno, in Yokosuka, Japan in 1962 and had two children, Sherri and Kenneth.
Walter had 7 grandchildren who he was immensely proud of: Jordan, Tristian, Trayton, Tiernann, Taliesin, Tavyn and Domini.
He and Miyoko loved to travel and was able to spend time in Spain, Italy, Europe, Mexico, and the Mediterranean. He enjoyed many summers of camping in his trailer.
He was an avid Seahawks fan and quickly became a Seattle Kraken fan. He loved the holidays, Sunday breakfasts, family dinners, red wine, and spending time with his dog Koda.
He leaves behind his daughter Sherri (Steve) and son Kenny (Niki), 7 grandchildren, sisters Dorothy Bartucci of Fresno, California and Glenda Hammonds of El Dorado, California, numerous nephews and nieces, and beloved dog Koda.
He was predeceased by his father Walter and mother Vera, brothers Thomas, Robert, and Carl, and his wife of 59 years, Miyoko.
