Riley Scott Vaughn, beloved husband, son, and brother passed away July 29th, 2023. Riley was born in Springfield, Missouri June 5th, 1994, to Tracy and Wesley Vaughn and stayed in Missouri until he joined the military in 2012. At the age of eighteen, Riley enlisted in the United States Navy. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. As part of this service, he was proud to call himself a submariner, earning two Good Conduct Medals, a Global War on Terrorism Medal, a Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and four Sea Service Deployment Ribbons. He was honorably discharged in January of 2022 after nine years of faithful service.
During his time in the service, he made lasting friendships with many of his submariner shipmates. He was a friend that could always be counted on for many things, like cleaning a friend's gutters. No matter what someone needed, he was sure to be there for all those he loved and cared about. Riley was often described as a jokester, with a quick wit. He could always make someone laugh, especially when quoting words backward. Riley was born with an entrepreneurial mindset. He would read the newspaper and tell his mom where to find the best gas prices, and at school, he would sell beef jerky that his dad Wesley would make. Riley was a natural businessman!
Riley was an avid snowboarder and was driven by the adrenaline rush when sliding down the slopes. When speaking about snowboarding he would express the feeling it would give him "the feeling of being free." Hiking, paddle boarding, and exploring were just some of the ways Riley spent his free time.
Riley decided to plant roots in Washington which led him to begin acquiring real estate, and managing properties, all while pursuing his business and economics degrees. Riley was accepted to the University of Washington after his time at Tacoma Community College.
In 2019, Riley met Alejandrina through mutual friends, Brian, and Rebekah Causey. They quickly realized how many passions and interests they shared which led them to fall in love and marry on May 8th, 2020. Their relationship was built on sharing new experiences together from the beginning like Riley teaching Alex to snowboard to Riley learning how to make tortillas then to exploring Washington in a van named “Tammy.”
They later started a homestead with chickens, goats and not to forget their dog Walter at their home in Port Orchard. They pushed each other to grow professionally by deciding to go back to college together to pursue their future careers and he often said, “Together we could build an empire.” Riley was a wonderful husband and a responsible provider.
Riley’s family, including his mother Tracy, and two sisters Whitney, and Jalene, moved to Port Orchard to be closer to Riley and Alex. Going on adventures together was something they often did as a family. They loved traveling, and had wonderful trips to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and their trip to universal studios in California!
Riley is survived by his loving wife Alejandrina, his mother Tracy, father Wesley, sisters Whitney and Jalene, brother Chris, nephew Dayton and friends. He will be greatly missed.
