Purvis Nathan passed away Monday, June 29, 2015. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Nathan of Delhi, Louisiana, September 21, 1927. He was reared and educated in Louisiana. He confessed faith in Christ at an early age. Purvis went into the U.S. Army and served from 1952 to 1960
(2 years Active Military and 6 years Army Reserve). When he got out, he stayed in the Pacific Northwest. He worked for the City of Bremerton and then went to work for the Washington State Ferries for approximately 40 years.
He united with Sinclair Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. Back in the day, if you needed a haircut, you could go to the Nathan Brothers (Purvis and Doc). Purvis never married nor had any children, but he has lots of nieces and nephews.
Purvis is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Nathan, as well as his nine siblings: Joe Nathan, Mary Williams, Doctor L. Nathan, Minnie McDowell, Rose Young, Luethia Canada,
Ocelia Herring, Rachel Ketchum, and Samuel Nathan.
The Nathan and Saulsberry family would like to thank the Sinclair Missionary Baptist Church family and various communities, both near and far, for your love and kindness.
Services for Purvis Nathan will be held at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel on Saturday, July 11, 2015
