Mary Booher, born February 26, 1949, left behind her garden and flew into the stars on May 21, 2021. If that sounds whimsical, it's because that's the kind of woman she was, and will always be remembered to be by her family.
Mary was the definition of sweet, a character trait she infused into every aspect of her life (including the not-so-occasional milkshake). She spent her life helping others, and worked at Kitsap Community Resources for several years to try to bring some of that joy to people who no doubt were enriched by her kindness.
She spent a great deal of her time in her garden, surrounded by the flowers she often resurrected after rescuing them from various big-box stores that let them wilt (she considered that a travesty). She'd take slow, calm care of each plant, and used the same approach in life; sharing love, custom tailored to the recipient, was her constant gift to anyone who knew her.
Ever the eccentric, Mary took a substantial amount of pride in being known as the crazy cat lady. She was an accomplished painter who saw the world in vivid shapes and light, and spent much of her time reading intensive fantasy and science fiction novels. She took that passion seriously, and took great pride in enjoying incredibly stupid B-movies of any caliber. She loved to laugh, and it's incredibly difficult for me to remember a time where she wasn't smiling.
Truthfully, Mary saw the best in everything. A bad movie was always "fun in its own way". Any meal she ate was delicious, and the price was always met with a "that's not bad". Any bad news was followed with "we'll get through it". And phone calls always started with "Hi honey".
Mary is survived, remembered, and loved by her rather large family. Her husband Jeff, her two daughters Michelle and Jennifer, her two sons Alan and Chris, her siblings Pat, Don, Dennis, and Susan, her grandchildren Ashley, Jessica, Tyler, and Kaleb, and her great-grandchildren Emberlee and Redd will always remember her adorable brand of crazy. Let's not forget those fur babies either, because I know she'd be irritated with me if I didn't mention Boo, Rufia, Arteth, Ruby, and Bailey (the recipient of many a cheeseburger because Mary knew he loved them).
Please share memories and condolences for her family with Natasha Crass at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, and plant a flower in Mary's honor in your own garden in lieu of sending any. Or throw back a milkshake, because she'd love that too.
