The one woman ladies’ man and single malt lover was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 12, 1936 to James Leo Kilduff and Marie (Sullivan) Kilduff.
A graduate of many fine institutions, Wayne State University, US Army, University of Michigan, and finally achieving his MD from Wayne State School of Medicine in 1967. He fine-tuned his craft in Surgery and Urology with residencies at Swedish Hospital and the University of Washington.
Dr. Kilduff started Kitsap Urology Associates in Bremerton, Washington and worked at Harrison Memorial Hospital from 1974 – 2000, where he “saved lives and stamped out disease” during a long medical career. Later on he represented his peers and fought for healthcare while serving as President of the Washington State Medical Association.
He was a Clinical Instructor, Associate Professor of Urology, and later on granted Professor Emeritus all at the University of Washington…finally, “getting some respect”. Although, he rooted for Michigan against the UW in the Rose Bowl(s), we forgive you.
Jim was an epic practical joker and dropped his Irish humor on any that could endure (i.e., painting giant K’s on neighbors rooftops, waking up his kids with large industrial fireworks, and planning annual special ops missions inserting blinkers into friend’s Christmas displays). Jim also certainly had a passion for reminding us all with great laughter of the Kilduff family motto “the 5 P’s”, especially on the many duck hunting and fly fishing excursions: “Prior Planning Promotes Perfect Performance”.
Well known for being stubborn and always refusing to follow doctor’s orders, Jim was an expert story teller, often told while dunking morning sausages into his daily green tea (a fine trait handed down from his mother). Jim was a food lover and at times, a great chef, however we’re still not convinced there is such a thing as J.R. Tolkien’s magical “Black Forest Eggs”. We will miss your laughter and well-timed jokes.
He married his one and only “first wife”, Mary Jane (Stibich) Kilduff in Detroit, Michigan, on May 27, 1966 and together celebrated 48 years of adventure. Jim is survived by his loving wife Mary Jane, and their three children Kevin (46), Kirsten (42) and Brian (39), two grandson’s James (13) and William (13), and his sister Mary Carol Speier. He was a wonderful husband and an awesome dad, always teaching us about love, the importance of family, and hard work.
We all are welcomed to celebrate Jim’s ultimate and heavenly hole-in-one, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, in Bremerton, on Wednesday, September 10th at 11AM for Funeral Mass. He will most certainly duck out of the ceremony early and head over to the hospital to watch the Seahawks with his beloved patients. Until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand. We love you.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter: www.alsa-ec.org.
