12/23/1926-10/27/2024
Brigida Garrido Aquiningoc, 97, of Port Orchard, Washington, peacefully passed away, Sunday, October 27, 2024 at home in Port Orchard.
She was born December 23, 1926. She met her husband, Pedro Perez Aquiningoc and married in 1947. They had six children. They moved to Long Beach, CA in 1957 when her husband, who was in the Navy, was stationed in the States. They resided in Long Beach until 1970, then the family relocated to Bremerton, Washington.
Brigida loved gardening and spent many hours tending to her garden, producing the most beautiful and vibrant flowers. Brigida enjoyed cooking, making some of the most delicious foods. If she didn't have all the ingredients, she would "doctor" the recipe creating a dish more flavorful than what the original recipe required.
Brigida was very involved in the Altar Society at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton. Her floral arrangements were amazing and showed the love she had for Our Lord, Jesus Christ. At Christmas, she would make wreaths where they adorned both the church and front door of her children's homes.
Brigida was very proud of her Chamorro heritage and was the first President of the Guam Club in Bremerton.
Brigida was a woman of great faith and loved Our Lord, Jesus Christ with all her heart. She believed in the power of prayer and it is through those prayers that many lives were changed. She loved her children with a great intensity and knew in her heart that they would mature into adults who also showed great faith and love for our Lord.
Brigida is preceded in death by her husband Pedro Perez Aquiningoc, her parents Jose and Concepcion Garrido, her son Peter Garrido Aquiningoc, and her sister Isabel Santos. She is survived by two sisters, Terisita Garrido Cruz and Anne Garrido Cruz, both of California, as well as a brother, Frank Garrido in Arizona. She is survived by two sons, Anthony Garrido Aquiningoc, Steve Garrido Aquiningoc, and three daughters, Edith Aquiningoc Murphy, Eileen Aquiningoc Schwake, and Velma Aquiningoc Rodriguez. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
