Gloria Helen Priest

Gloria H. Priest, 85 of Putney, VT passed away on July 23, 2017 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. She was born in Putney on February 26, 1932; the daughter of the late Berton M. and Edna (Morse) Holway.

Gloria spent most of her life in Putney. She was educated in the Putney, VT and Northampton, MA school systems. She worked as a caregiver for several families. Gloria was a master crafter and seamstress. She made beautiful clothes, knitted hot plates and even made scenic Christmas ornaments out of egg shells. She was an avid gardener who had an extremely creative eye, forming spectacular natural gardens throughout her yard. She enjoyed cooking and hosting gatherings for family and friends and cherished recent visits with Darcy, Emily, Leann and Jace.

She is predeceased by her husband, Emerson “Pete” Priest in 1986, and two siblings.

She is survived by two sons, Ron Wilkins and his wife Annmarie of Springfield, VT and Bert Wilkins and his wife Lynne of Putney, VT; a daughter, Carol Anne Currie and her husband Carl, Sr. of Windham, ME; four step-children, including Susan and Peter Priest; two siblings; four grandchildren, Dan and Brian Farrell, Jason Polczynski (Amanda), and Leann LaClair (Joe); three great grandchildren, Maeve and Lilly Polczynski and Jace LaClair; beloved friends, Judy Morton and the Crawford Girls; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

All are welcome to a reception to be held at the Putney Fire Department following the service. We appreciate the pictures, memories, stories and love all have to offer.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:00 am at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Putney, VT. The KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, Brattleboro, VT is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Putney Fire Station, 21 Carl Snyder Dr., Putney, VT 05346.
