Beloved husband of the late Marjorie. Loving Dad of MaryBeth (Jim) Blokker, Andrew (Janice) Russell, and Janet (Jim) Morrison. Dear Grandad to Jimmy (Martha), Katie, Peter (Jiweon), Allie, Elizabeth, Kirsty (Geoff), Sandy (Morgan), Russell, Annie (Jefferson) and Andrew. Great-Grandad to Mila, Ella, Logan, Lexi, Callum, Baird, Louis and Pascale. Sandy loved and was loved by many and he will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
Sandy grew up mostly in Toronto, and became a Registered Professional Forester, graduating from the University of Toronto in 1948. He and Marjorie were married in 1950. During his career as a Forester he established the Provincial Forest Nursery in Dryden Ontario. After many years (1948-1964) with the Department of Lands and Forests, they settled in Brantford where Sandy taught science and became department head at Pauline Johnson Collegiate (1964-1983). Sandy spent many years volunteering with Scouts Canada. They were very involved in the life of Central Presbyterian Church. After they retired, he and Marjorie travelled extensively.
His favourite place in the world was the summer cottage at Camp Lake, where many joyful summers were spent with their children, grandchildren, and then great-grandchildren. Sandy enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, woodworking reading, painting, and photography. He was an amazing example of non-judgmental love, support, faith, leadership, dignity, resilience and indomitable spirit. We are so blessed and thankful to have had him as a wonderful Dad, Grandad, and Great-Grandad. Thank you, Grandad. We love you.
The family will receive friends at the Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home at 96 West St., Brantford, on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 10am-11am. A Celebration of Sandy’s life will be held in the Chapel at 11am. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
