Ofelia was born September 30, 1933 in Camaguey, Cuba. She emigrated to the United States with her husband and two daughters in 1968 and lived in Chicago for a short time before relocating to Tampa in 1971. Together with her husband, Pedro “Chacho” Acosta, and their beloved son in law Gilbert Pereira, they owned and operated the San Lazaro market and restaurant on Hillsborough Avenue for 18 years.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband Chacho, and parents Ana Maria and Victor Olazabal, and 6 siblings. She is survived by her loving daughters, Maritza Pereira of Tampa along with her husband Gilbert and their children Gilbert Pereira Jr., Maritza Dailey, and Jeffrey Pereira and Magalys Conatser and her husband Kenneth and their children Jared Lochmueller (Kacie) and Jessica Warren (Anthony). She also has three surviving siblings: Mario Olazabal and Gaspar Olazabal of Miami and Arnoldo Olazabal of Cuba.
Ofelia was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Carlos Joel Coll, Anthony Coll, Joseph Obregon, Maddox Lochmueller, Wesson Lochmueller, and Jackson Warren,.
Ofelia loved her Catholic faith and was a follower of the Cursillo Movement, which seeks to emphasize spiritual study and to keep Christ as the center of our lives. Ofelia was a lifelong active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.
Visitation will take place Friday, June 21, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511. A funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 22 at 10:00 am, Nativity Catholic Church, 705 E. Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511, with private reception to follow.
