of natural causes surrounded by her two children Julie and Dean.
In life, Lynda was a force of nature. She was tough, resilient and strong. She knew what she
wanted out of life and got it. She placed family at the forefront of all her endeavors. She was
selfless, loving and made everyone in her company feel better. Lynda was also a fantastic cook
who was always happy in the kitchen. Everyone at her table got their fill of great food, and
then some--yet always had to find room for dessert which was her signature dish. She grew up
on a farm in Carrollton Georgia and loved all of nature which was something that she carried all
through life. She left the farm in her 20s but the farm never left her. She married Paul and they
settled in Jacksonville Florida where they raised their two children, Julie and Dean. While living
in Jacksonville they were active members of First United Methodist Church. In 1976, Lynda and
Paul moved to Valrico Florida where they called Limona Village Chapel their church home, and
where Lynda volunteered for the Meals-On -Wheels program for close to 30 years. Her home
was that of faith, love, laughter, kindness, and comfort. We all feel very blessed to have had
her as family.
Lynda is survived by her son Dean Hawkins, grandson Paul Hawkins, daughter Julie Daugherty,
son-in-law Sherrill Daugherty III, and their children Pete Daugherty,
Melanie (Daugherty) Dane, spouses Chelsea Daugherty and Andrew Dane, great grandchildren
Liam & Logan Daugherty, Eleanor and Duke Dane, and sister-in-law Meri Nixon. Lynda was
preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Paul Hawkins as well as sisters Pat
Wright, Jane Wilson, brothers Allen and Mark Nixon, along with spouses Jerry Wright and
Garfield Wilson.
Viewing will be held at 11 AM, service at 12PM on December 13th at Hillsborough Memorial
Funeral in Brandon, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Meals on
Wheels.
