John D Shafer

Tampa - Shafer, John D. , 81, passed away on June 27, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Tampa. Born in Rochester, NY. on July 24, 1930 to Joseph and Dorothy (Biek) Shafer, John was married to Jean (Alcock), who survives.

Mr. Shafer was a retired US Armed Services veteran with 22 years in the Air Force. After retirement from the Military, John worked as a payroll clerk for TECO Electric for 17 years retiring in 1992.

John enjoyed the local casino and was an avid card player. He was also a vital part and very active member in the local "Liars Club" at the Dunkin Doughnuts on Gandy Blvd.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean, two sons, Thomas R. Shafer (Susan) of Sarastoa, John R. Shafer (Cheena) of Dover. Daughter, Robin A. Lund (Eric) of Tampa, a brother, Joseph Shafer Jr. (Gloria), three sisters, Carolyn Lynch (Bernard), Mary May (Paul), and Judy Reisinger (John) all of New York.

Six grandchildren, Michael Shafer (Mika), Holly Shafer, Jessica Shafer, Kenzie Shafer, Colby Lund, and Cassidy Lund, and one great grandson, Hudson Shafer.

Visitation for Mr. Shafer will be held on Sunday, July 1 from 6-8 PM at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd, Brandon.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday July 2, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 4518 South Manhatten, Tampa. Reception immediately following the Mass will be held in the Social Hall at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Burial wil be at 1:00 PM Monday with Military rites conducted at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens.

Family asks that memorials may be made to choice of the donor.
