Carol "Cali" G. Oliver

Carol G. “Cali” Oliver, R.N., 77, of Brandon, passed away August 21, 2011.Cali was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 26, 1933, and grew up in Weiser, idaho. Cali attended nursing school at St. Marks Episcopal in Salt Lake City, Utah, and had specialized training in group and individual psychotherapy. Over the course of her career in medicine, she served as a Supervisor of Denver Adams Division, Colorado State Hospital, Pueblo, Colorado; Physician’s Assistant for Dr. C. David Jones, Psychiatrist; Head Nurse of Surgical Oncology Unit, St. Mary Corwin Hospital; established a psych unit in Nevada; worked at James A. Haley V.A. Hospital in Tampa, Florida, were she served on the Central Office Nursing Board; she was one of the seven founders of Hospice of Hillsborough, Inc., which is now known as Lifepath Hospice, and was also a board member. Cali also participated in numerous fundrasing activities, ran a twelve line concession stand with volunteers, and taught the first volunteer classes for Hospice. She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. At church she was an Ascribe member and coordinator of the Institute of Charity, a member of the Catholic Charities Advisory Board, member of the Parish Council, an Eucharistic Minister, belonged to the Tender Care & Share Bereavement Committee, volunteered with the Christmas Program to help the needy, and was the Carnival Auction Leader for 9 years.Cali was a published poet of prose poems which appear on her website www. CalisHaven.com. She was preceded in death by her son, Russell Todd Oliver. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth, who made her feel that her life truly began when she married him. She is also survived by her son, Robert Martin Oliver; daughters, Kenda Marie Cacciaguida (Michael), and Kali Ann Vaccarella; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Stowers Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Assisi Institute of Charity.
