Alan C. Farmer, 69, of Riverview, passed away on September 19, 2024 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 24, 1955, Alan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend known for his love of God, Family, USA and the U.S. Navy. He was also known for his kindness, generosity and his love for the Peanuts comics.
Alan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lisa Farmer and his 2 children: Andrew Farmer and wife Rebecca Farmer of San Diego, CA and Ashley Baker and husband Stephen Baker of Riverview, FL. 5 grandchildren: Colton, Savannah, Landon, Avianna, and Easton. His mother, Adrienne Farmer of Riverside, CA. His siblings: Glenn and wife Janet Farmer of Surprise, AZ, Vickie and husband Frank (Buzz) Haggerty of Beaumont, CA, and Lynn and husband Sal Guerrero of Riverside, CA and many loved nieces and nephews along with extended family and a host of friends who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Farmer.
Alan dedicated his life to United States Navy and served active duty from 1978 through 1991, the Navy Reserve from 1991 through 1999, retiring at the rank of Commander. He then went on making a significant impact in the community through his work as an engineer with Hawaiian Electric, ABB, Florida Power and Light (FPL), and retired from Burns and McDonnell in 2018 working in cyber security.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Alan cherished his time with family and friends. He loved singing in church, reading, and time with his grandchildren. He touched the lives of everyone he met.
A celebration of life will be held on October 19 at Bell Shoals Church, Brandon, FL, to commemorate his life and legacy. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. with service following at 10:30 a.m., reception will follow. Burial will be held on October 21 at 12:00 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org) in honor of his memory.
Alan’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
