Louise M. Fetzer, 91, of Augusta, NJ, passed away peacefully on Dec. 23 at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Rubert and Mary (Bechel) Biter, born Dec. 4, 1930, in Dover, DE.
She married the late George A. Fetzer in 1958, building a life and family together in Augusta, NJ. Louise and George oversaw the successful common carrier, “Fetzer Fast Freight”, while raising their three children on the family owned and operated trucking co./dairy farm. Louise successfully oversaw company operations after George’s untimely passing in 1981. Beginning in 1985, Louise embarked on a new journey, assuming financial record oversight first for Compton Press of Mendham, NJ and later, Gerardi Press of Denville, NJ as their Senior Bookkeeper. Never afraid of a hard day’s work, Louise remained a full-time employee at Gerardi Press until her retirement at age 82.
In 1986, Louise met her next life partner, the late Wentworth (Hunt) Weaver. For nearly thirty-five years, Louise and Hunt shared a passion for adventure and family. Their memorable trips took them across the country, visiting friends and relatives along the way.
Louise placed family at the center of her life. Her greatest joy was the transition from mom to grandma; affectionately known as Mutti. A devoted and nurturing mother to her three children and the many nieces/nephews that spent time on the farm, plus grandmother to two grandchildren, Louise epitomised compassion, integrity and confidence. Her cooking took centre stage at every family meal (her harvard beets were unmatched!) while her stories of “times gone by” never ceased to resonate deeply.
Besides being a pillar in her own family, Louise loved to serve in the community. She contributed on many committees and organizational boards during her lifetime. Some of her most memorable volunteer work included, being den mother to the boisterous Cub Scout Troop 180, a PTC member of Frankford Township School, and a member of Hopatcong Power Squadron and Christ Episcopal Church.
“Her giving nature and unselfish ways were a blessing to everyone who knew her”
Louise is survived by her sister Mary Parrish, of Scottsdale; her brother Richard Biter (Tina), of Sarasota; her three children: George Fetzer, of Augusta; Wilma Martin (Kevin), of Fredon; and Suzanne Fetzer, of Annandale. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nicholas and Zachary Martin, of Fredon; and a host of nieces and nephews. A private gravesite service will be held at the Frankford Plains Cemetery.
