It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bill (William) at his home in Bramalea, with his family by his side, on Monday February 28, 2022 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Primrose (nee Sohanlal) for 57 years. Cherished father of Bill (Maria) and Anita. Devoted Grandad to Liam and George. He will be sadly missed by his brother Michael (Heather). Predeceased by his parents George and Martha, his brothers Brian (Patricia), George and Brendan and his sister Caitlin.
Born December 26, 1936 in Burmondsey, England, Bill graduated from the London School of Economics and proudly served in the RAF. After immigrating to Canada with his “special friend and love of his life”, he proceeded to be employed by the Ontario government as an Economist, Carlton University as a Professor of Economics and eventually the Canadian International Development Agency as the Head of their Educational Development Program in Nigeria. He considered himself a Canadian with a British accent.
Bill lived life to the fullest and was an adventurous traveler. He didn’t take the path, he made the path. He was always up for any challenge and traveled to all corners of Europe. His philosophy was you didn’t drink a lot… but you drank often. His preferred beverage was a Chablis or a nice Margeaux which he enjoyed most over a healthy debate. He was an avid sports enthusiast, and regardless of whether playing rugby, golf, cross country skiing, swimming or bridge he played with passion. When not actually participating in sports he could be found cheering on Mike Wier, Lewis Hamilton, AFC Wimbledon or his beloved Buffalo Bills.
His grandchildren will cherish their special Grandad who was always up for a game of mini-sticks in the basement, soccer, football and a water fight. He never missed a hockey game, play or concert. He loved the holidays and the sweets that came with them. However, he had a special spot in his heart for Halloween and handing out candy to the kids, especially the big ones. He took the time to form unique relationships with each and every one of his many nieces and nephews around the globe.
With capacity restrictions lifted, all are invited to join the family at Andrews Community Funeral Centre, 8190 Dixie Rd, Brampton visiting Sunday March 6, 2022 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, and at the Funeral Mass to be celebrated Monday March 7 at 11:00 am at St. Marguerite D’Youville Catholic Church, 2490 Sandalwood Pkwy E, Brampton. The Rite of Committal will follow at Brampton Memorial Gardens, 10061 Chinguacousy Rd., Brampton.
