So sorry to hear of Manuel’s passing.  He was a very special and fine man.  He will be sadly missed.

We are so very saddened on the passing of our good and dear friend Manuel.

I cannot forget the good times we shared as a family in Kampala and Nakuru for many years.  Our fathers worked together before they married and we the children, met on many occasions and had some very good times together, playing, and me being the oldest, Manuel's dad  Mr. Paul and Mrs. Paul would take me to dances in Kampala with my parents.

Manuel was a kind and loving soul, who was very helpful and never said 'No' to anything that was asked of him.  
Fast forward... when we met again in Montreal and Toronto, our love between the two families never wavered.
Manuel and Sybil surprised us many a times with beautifully decorated home made birthday cakes and more, to mention a few.

To you Sybil, and to all your family, we would like to express our deepest sympathies on your huge loss of a great husband, father, and grandfather.  May Manuel's Soul Rest in Peace.

The world is darker without Manuel. He was always incredibly supportive of everyone around him from Sybil, to this girls and everyone else around him lucky enough to be in his presence. The love and joy that came from him on a daily basis was incredible. Always happy, always smiling, always willing to lend a hand, give advice, support without judgement, he was a blessing to us all.
He was my dad's closest friend, they shared so many good times as they worked and toiled together for years. He sold me my first car, taught me everything about it with patience and wisdom, was there at my wedding, invited me into his golf group, and there for me when my own dad passed away.
The love, kindness, joy and presence cannot be fully captured in words and though I feel like I've lost a second father, his legacy lives on in his family and we've all been made better because of him.

We did not have the pleasure and privilege of knowing Manuel for very long but in the short time we interacted with him, he made a deep and lasting impression on us. What struck us most was his unwavering Faith and indomitable spirit throughout his many trials and tribulations especially during the past few months with the numerous hospital visits for intensive Chemotherapy. He had a warm welcoming smile always and a positive attitude until the end. While we will miss Manuel, we are grateful that our paths crossed, if even for just a little while.  We are sure that being the kind of caring person he was while on this earth, he will continue to look down from heaven, with favor on all those he leaves behind.
You fought the good fight Manuel, in a way that not many people would have the courage and patience to do. Rest in Peace!

Manuel was an exceptional, special man.  He will be remembered by our family as a kind, humble, generous, helpful, fun-loving man who was rooted in his extra-ordinary faith. We were privileged to know him, and to be loved by him.  There are so many memories of Manuel that come to mind, most rooted in our connection through St. Marguerite d’Youville Parish.  We will forever hear him on Christmas Eve, going up to the podium of a packed church before Midnight Mass would start, taking the mike in hand, and starting with “Brothers and Sisters” as he truly meant it, reminding us about why we were there and to pick up our coats and purses to make room for the many parishioners looking for seats.  His strong faith was so evident for everyone to see, as was the sparkle in his eye for some fun and laughter, and the great love he had for his family and friends.  It is this love that truly stands out for me, particularly when my Dad, Carl Mendes, was ill.  He took the time to not only visit regularly, but go out of his way to make sure Dad was seen, heard and connected to all that was happening in the community.  On the day of my brother Ryan’s wedding, he and Sybil attending the ceremony and then rushing back to the hospital to show him the pictures was unequivocally a true example of the love he held for others.  We developed a special bond during that time, as he called me “the rock”, while constantly checking in and reminding me that he was someone I could lean on when and if needed. We maintained that special bond till the last day we met, 2 weeks before he passed.  We have lost a great man who has fought an incredible fight rooted in faith and his love of family.  He will be missed incredibly, but we know he is at peace, in our Father’s hands, watching over us and continuing to cheer us on in all that we do.

Our sincere condolences to you all.  Uncle Manuel will always be remembered.  I have so many childhood memories with you all. Uncle Manuel was a big part of that. There were countless cousin sleepovers, trips to Buffalo together and holiday celebrations.  Whether he was there with his camcorder recording the whole celebration or dancing away in the basement, he was always present and ready to join in on the fun.  Uncle Manuel was always there with advice about cars and it was always appreciated.  I remember his delicious breakfast meals and those great barbeques. He had great faith in the Lord and he brought warmth and happiness to every gathering. Life is about creating memories that will bring a smile to our faces for years to come.
I certainly will remember this when I think of our time with him.  His legacy and faith will not be forgotten.
Be at peace Uncle Manuel. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

My deepest condolences on the passing of Manuel.  He was a kind gentle and compassionate man.
I recall how you both took interest in the Milk bag Mattress making Ministry, and you took a frame to make a mat and show others how to.  I will never forget his support and offer to transport our Milk bag Mattress material from SMD to Fr Clair Tipping School, and enlisted the help of Knights Licatas and Carmen.  As he was leaving, he told me, "you will be back soon, we are building a room in the church hall, and there will be space for you there".  This did not come to pass, however his care and compassion was heartfelt.
Take comfort in knowing that Manuel now lies in the bosom of Our Lord.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
 Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, let perpetual light shine upon him, may his soul through the mercy of God, rest in Peace. Amen.

Manuel and I were young friends in Kampala, Uganda, part of a group of families that used to visit each others homes on Sundays which was the social custom back then. For whatever reason(s) we have not seen or been in touch with each other for about 60 years but I still have fond memories of my young friend, that friendly smiling face, strongly handsome in his own way I should add from memory!
My most vivid memory of Manuel, which I shared with our mutual friend Marjorie a few days ago, occurred on Uganda Independence Day, 9th October 1962. Manuel and other members of our families were playing outside my house on some open ground on that day when quite suddenly an Air Force jet flew overhead. Manuel became so excited and started running at top speed following the plane's path shouting, almost screaming the word "IN - DE - PEN - DENCE!!!" which made the rest of us thinking he'd gone mad but of course he was just being Manuel with his amazing smile on his face! I worked out from his D.O.B that he was only about 7 years old!!
Sincere condolences from my family to Manuels immediate and also extended families on losing this amazing personality, may he R.I.P.    Amen. 

I had hit rock bottom when Uncle Manuel of all humans on earth came to my rescue. With authority involved in the background of my life, and beyond his own life's responsibilities, he set out a mission under the radar to help without even me asking him. Till this day and I know for as long as I live, he engraved it in my heart and brain to learn to forgive.  He said to me that there was happiness in my life if only I allowed to see it. It eventually took a number of years to realize that. For all I care, he was not only a super Uncle but also a genuine friend, a father-figure, a somewhat mind-reader, and my ultimate therapist. How he just had ways of telepathy! I have lost a piece of my heart. I cry ugly writing this. I still find myself in disbelief in the middle of the night. I can't even re-read texts from him .. yet. His memories however, brings some peace in my broken heart. 

My deepest deepest sorrows to the Paul Family, relatives, friends, and everyone who crossed paths with our dearest Uncle Manuel. He is and will always be terribly missed.

He truly enjoyed cars…showing it through his knowledge, care, compassion & dedication.  But his dedication also expanded to co-workers that became longtime friends & people who were lucky to have met him.
There were many a times when I needed to let off some steam back in the Formula Honda days & found myself “rambling like a truck driver” is what he used to say but then gave me a smile followed by a finger wagging and all was right again.  He was that guy!
Always knew exactly what to say and reminded me that there is more to life than just that crappy moment.  He would tell me not to care what others think or say… but do what is best for me and proper of course. 
Trevor & Manny worked together at Downtown Acura - so long ago but even back then… he left a imprint on him.
I thank you Manny for having my back and being our friend.  
You will never be forgotten & always in our hearts.

Dear Manuel,
I’m beyond saddened to hear this. I’m writing this with tears rolling down. I will remember you by the laughter we shared and the great times. You treated me like your daughter. You always gave me great advice. 
At one point I lived in Georgetown and would pick up Manuel in the mornings because he was not able to drive. We would drive to work on the 407. We would stop to play the lottery and grab breakfast before work. Manual always knew where the best breakfast was. He knew where the best place was to buy a lottery ticket from. 
Manual would tell me if I drive 119kms the cops would not stop me hah. Manual was an amazing person. I’ll miss you tons and know that one day we will meet again.
I will be here for your wife Manual whenever she needs something. Thank you for everything! Thank you for being there for me when my Nanna passed. I will really miss you and I love you!!

He is no longer in pain and  will be reuniting with his family and Our Lord. I have many fond memories of him growing up! My love of hot sauce came from watching him pour Tabasco sauce over eggs every time he came to visit us from Montreal.  I will also never forget the ride he gave me in the brand new Mazda Rx7 on the 404 from Sheppard to Finch Ave. As a kid that was one thrill of a ride!  Uncle Manuel always supported me from a young age and for that I will be eternally great full.  His loss has brought back memories of losing my Dad but it gives me joy to know that they are both reunited in Heaven arms around each other's shoulders and smiling down on all of us.
