I am James's cousin, very sorry to hear that he passed away. He used to take me to the cinema when I was young and he was great fun. His father, Uncle Sonny, was my father's elder brother. My first born is also nicknamed Sonny. My condolences.

I met Jim through the Central Park Old Timers Hockey League but it was at one of the after game sessions that we found out that we had crossed paths when Jim live in Uxbridge as a child. 

My parents and his parents had mutual friends and Jim and I had mutual childhood friends. We found we had been to similar places, such as a farm just south of Uxbridge, owned by parents of childhood friends, so decided, although we couldn't really say, we must have known each other all this time. We got a chuckle out of that several times as I had known him longer than the other guys at hockey.

Over time we discussed work related things as technology I was helping to develop could assist first responders. The friendship was not just hockey.

My sincere condolences to Jim's family from an old friend.

As a part of the Ritchie family, I have known Jim since 1962.  He was always interested in others, always busy and always with a smile and a kind word.  A very special person, committed community member and devoted family  man, he will be greatly missed.

I am deeply saddened to read of the passing of Jim Ritchie . I am the daughter of the late Howard and Ethel Avis (nee Ritchie) His Dad ,Moray and my Mom were 1st cousins. My sympathies to his wife and family and especially to his Mom Margaret who I have very fond memories with . Thoughts and prayers with you all at this very difficult time.

A loss to our community.  A wonderful neighbour, always there to help.  


Until I was 14 I lived on Noranda Drive. I think it was through Brian McKeegan that I became friends with Jim and Doug when they lived on Hearst Circle.We ended up spending a lot of time together until I moved away.
I remember Jim with his red hair as high energy and  always ready for an adventure . Unfortunately we 
fell out of touch after I moved. I’m sorry to hear of his death

Being about the same age (i.e. old guys), Jim and I were kindred spirits for many years at Sunday night CPOHL games. Whether on the same team or as competitors, we always shared a laugh or a story that enriched our sense of camaraderie. I marvelled at his diligence and commitment to staying fit and healthy year round, especially the cycling events for which he raised funds. 
I will cherish all of those fond memories.

I first met Jim walking my dog in the park around our homes.  I was wearing a paramedic emblem, which peaked Jim's interest & we started chatting.  It’s not that Jim ever needed a reason to make friends. He did it naturally.  Those were the loose beginnings of what we call our "doggie group" - sometimes up to 8 neighbours and dogs walking and playing with our dogs. You don’t find communities like that everywhere., and I honestly feel that Jim was largely responsible for the loose knit feel of ours

After Jim's initial surgery,  he was determined to start walking around our block daily with Julie by his side.  I live about half way around, and on Jodie's request, I’d bring a chair out for him to rest on.  Any neighbours out at the time would join us and have a nice gathering.  Jim joked I should bring out some beer and cards.  Those were good times.

Jim, you were so kind, so generous, and so very inspirational to everyone who knew you.  The same is to be said for you, Julie, as well as your entire family.  

I am so saddened by your loss, and yet such a  better person for having met and gotten to know you.

I will share this message on behalf of all the members and retired members of the CPOHL Jim was a long time member of the cpohl hockey league over the many years that Jim played he probably played with all of our players sharing lots of hockey memories and also cycling trips that he would be a part of always willing to chat with anybody loved a beer or two after a game and some wings after a early game Always had a smile on his face we knew he was a good person at heart JIM RITCHIE we will miss you .Our thoughts and prayers to the RITCHIE FAMILY. I knew Jim both as a young boy  growing up in the same neighbourhood and later as an adult living in Brampton. Jim was always very friendly and always would stop and chat. I remember watching the Junior hockey games with Jim at Memorial Arena.

I have fond memories of Jim cycling around Lake Ontario with my husband David Gray also with Toronto Fire Department (passed away 2010). David always held Jim in high esteem and shared his love for cycling. There were many great stories told on this trip.
I remember Jim's smile, his love of cycling, his sense of humour and  his kindness.
