Great friend and working colleague miss him every day

These pictures of the 10am (10:30am then) choir are small memories of the big impact he made to our choir and broader church community. I joined the choir when I was 14 years old and I remember that Gerry was always active, present, kind and encouraging.  He was a committed and wonderful cantor and the life of the party. As Pat, one of our members, wrote in one of our emails: Gerry is definitely singing and dancing with the angels  now!

Dear Eula, 
Despite the pain of loss you and your children are currently experiencing, I hope that in time, you'll be able to reflect on the wonderful marriage you had and so many years of happiness.
Please accept my condolences on the loss of Gerry. He was a wonderful man. He had a great sense of humour and always had a good joke to share. May the Lord grant Gerry eternal peace.  I will always remember and surely will miss Gerry.  May your soul rest in peace. Farewell my friend.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽  Your friend in Christ, Aurora and family.


We were fortunate enough to be able to travel with Uncle Gerry one last time in Mexico May this year. He thoroughly enjoyed indulging in ice cream poolside and we could sincerely see that he enjoyed his time so much. Thankful for him and will miss him dearly. 

He will truly be missed.  We can only hope to be as cool and funny as he was. Uncle Gerry’s influence in our lives was a blessing and we will never forget him.

I cannot imagine the Mapua Alumni Association without Gerry.

Ever since I joined he has always been there. His contribution and support to the association is unconditional.  He is always ready to help and I don’t remember him being a problem or cause of it. He is very cooperative and supportive.  Hard to find brothers like him. His cheerful attitude and sense of humour makes some tense or boring meetings delightful.  

Eternal rest grant unto you Gerry and dance your way to heaven.

The last time I saw Gerry was at the Kalayaan Centre Appreciation NIght on July 9, 2022.  The event was a tribute to him.  I was happy to see him but sad to see his poor health condition.  He was in a wheelchair, wearing dark glasses, and hardly moving.  Yet, he exuded a sense of courage, determination, and pride.  At various times with some help, he flashed thumbs up with both hands to acknowledge and thank well-wishers.  His body was stricken but his mind was active.  

I first met Gerry In 1994 when together with a few alumni members, we formed Mapuans Ontario.  He was an active organizer and leader.  I miss Gerry.  I miss his cheerful smile, his friendship, his wit, his jokes, and his contributions to the organizations we both served.  I miss seeing him glide on the dance floor with Eula.  

Rest in peace, Gerry!

I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to know him while working at Smurfit Stone.  I’ll remember Gerry in so many positive ways especially his patience and always ready to help.
