Veteran WWII of the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) suddenly passed away in his 92nd year in his home on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Ed of Bramalea leaves behind two sons, Larry and Phil who will dearly miss him and one brother, Russ Grant of Ottawa. His wife, Georgene Cole, of 30+ years predeceased Ed’s death over 20 years ago. Ed was born in Espanola, a northern town of Ontario where he grew up in the woods and enjoyed fishing and swimming in the nearby rivers and lakes. Ed took up acting in stage plays during his university years. He joined the RCNVR and became an engine room Artificer on the HMCS Cape Breton, a River class frigate. His ship was on duty patrolling for enemy submarines during the Normandy landings also termed as D-day. He lived a full life and savored much good friends and good times including being a passenger on his son’s Harley Davidson motorcycle in his later years. He took enjoyment in his retirement gardening tomatoes and fishing whenever he could. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at Andrews CFC (8190 Dixie Rd., Brampton, 905-456-8190), from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Chapel on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 at 11am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society of Brampton, www.humanesociety.com.
