On Friday April 13th 2018, our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and coach, passed away at home. Born in Paloseco, Trinidad & Tobago on December 19th 1945, he was the son of the late Alexander & Violet Dickie. At the young age of 22, he immigrated to Canada, where Des met his wife Lynda (Nixon) of 49 years. Des began his professional work life at CN Rail and went on to build a successful and fulfilling career as a competitive track cycling coach. In his more than thirty years as a coach, Des was able to travel the globe while positively impacting the lives of athletes internationally from Canada to the United States and China, and finally in his home country of Trinidad & Tobago. Off the track, Des enjoyed fishing, cooking, and catching up on TV sports. Des truly lived life by his motto; “Life is Good”, and has inspired many others in his life to do the same by showing them what it means to work hard and live life to the fullest.
Des is survived by wife, Lynda, daughter Tanya “Rufa”, son Cory “Zura” (Cassandra), grandchildren Patrick “Cody” and Brodi “Riley”, siblings, nieces, nephews, countless beloved family and friends around the world, and of course his precious, four-legged, grand- and great-granddogs.
The family wish to thank the doctors, nurses & support workers.
