Mom has left us to reunite with her late husband Hugh, her mother, Alice, and her 2 grandchildren,Jamie and Alyson. She is survived by her 6 children, Michael (Catherine), Gary (Caroline), James (Dawn), Tim, Christine and Colleen. Also her 4 remaining grandchildren, Tammy (Lee), Ryan, Sara (Daniel), Katie Mae and 9 great grandchildren, as well as her sister Billie.
Mom had many friends. She was a fun-loving, kind, generous and gentle person who was loved by many. She was strong and feisty and had great determination and strength. She was also a very forgiving person. As a middle-aged woman, she sought out and found her estranged father who was living in Europe and whom she hadn't seen since 1945. She found she had a whole new family and she embraced them all.
Mom spent over 50 years as a member of the Catholic Women's League. She lived what she believed in. She did all she could for those in need by donating to many charities on a regular basis. She was always very thoughtful when it came to remembering her family and friends' birthdays and special occasions by calling, sending cards and sending flowers.
Mom worked for Bell Canada for many years and made many lifelong friends. Some are still with us and sadly some are not. After she retired, she travelled the world and had many interesting experiences We are so happy that she got the chance to do that.
Mom loved to dance! She spent her younger years dancing at the Palace Pier and going to see her favourite rockabilly, Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins. Though we miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing that she is now dancing in heaven. This is an image we want to remember.
We would like to thank the nurses and PSW's at Hawthorn Woods Care Community for looking after Mom in her last few years.
