 I'm so sorry that my brother died.
Have also my condolences with your father. He was a funny man, for whom I was always laughing at.  Your father was very special and I loved him very much.

Although it is very sad, it is also a relief for himself and everyone.
Yesterday I just finished reading his diary, so I felt me close to him.
I wished I could be there at the funeral, I have so good memories of him.
Already many times I looked in the picture gallery.

P.s. It is true your dad only wanted daughters, I remember the letter he wrote to my parents :  Betty is pregnant (from Laura) and we hope for another baby girl.

Hallo Mary. We were very upset to hear of tanta Ans about the passing away of your father . Most probably you will remenber us as the old neighbours of tante Ans in Bennebroek. Later we moved to Heemstede and we know you as the "bye-bye girls ".that was how our daughters called you and your sister Barb. We still have pictures of you and your sister in the room of Petra ,our daughter with the dog centa.Also when I was flying I visited several times Toronto and was Always welcomed by your father .That were nice moments. We will keep your father Always in our memory and are happy thatwe had the privilage of knowing Bert OUR SINCERELY CONDOLENCES. All the best Mariette and Peter van Mulkom.

Dear Susan, Mary and Barb,
 
It is sad but the best for him and also for you.

Accept our sympathies for all of you. You have had a very good father and I have had a very good brother. We have laughed a lot together and the last time I missed him already very much with our telephone calls.

We wish you courage for the coming days and we will think of you these days!

Dear Susan, Barbara, Mary and Laura,





I want to condole all of you with the loss of your father.
 Due to the distance in kilometers, we were not able to meet a lot. 
 But during the occasions your father visited the Netherlands we had a warm contact in which the distance in years did not play any role.
 So we could always talk about any topic and had a lot of fun together.
 For the way your dad dealt with my mother I always had great respect. Although they were not related, they were very fond of each other.

 I understood that the last years of his life haven't been the easiest ones. 
 But you have to know that I always have had great respect and admiration for the step, due to the circumstances, your father had taken in the forties of the last century to leave the Netherlands.
 He often told me how much difficulty he had to overcome in the early years in his new world. Through his optimism, determination and open mind, he has achieved great things socially, and must have been a good father to you. 
In any case, he was always very proud of all of you.
 We will all miss him in our own way; I will miss him as a warm and cordial brother with a great sense of humor. My hero from the other side of the ocean!
 I'll will keep him in good memory and I wish all of you  all the strength in the processing of this loss.
