Mona Boothe Cox died peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 in Sarasota, FL at the age of 91. She was born in Durham, NC to William Alfred and Ara Sykes Boothe. After high school, Mona was crowned Miss Durham and was the eventual first runner-up to the Miss North Carolina beauty contest. She met and married the Duke football star, John William “Billy” Cox, and through the 66 years they were married she had the opportunity to travel and live in many places, including Germany and England, while raising her children. She enjoyed traveling and entertaining, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
Mona is survived by her four children, Terry Cox, Linda Jellison (Craig Wedge), Amy Conner (Pete) and John Cox (Felicia), who all live in Sarasota, FL. She was loved well by grandchildren, their spouses, and great-grandchildren, Jennifer Fisher (husband, Eric, and sons, Price and Samuel), Shannon Barr (husband, Mark and daughter, Makayla), Ty Conner (wife, Lorielle, and children, Elias and Heartlee), Sara Moyer (husband, Brandon, and son, Dylen), Madison Cox, Morgan Cox, Tasha Ringlein (husband, Christopher and children Sebastian, Caydon, and Noah), Thomas Wedge and Scott Wedge.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Harvest United Methodist Church, 14305 Covenant Way, Lakewood Ranch, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice Foundation (Sarasota House).
