J. L. (Jack) Frost, retired Sr. Vice President of General Mills Inc. passed away at the age of 90. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Esther Frost and his loving wife of 48 years Elizabeth (Liz). Jack is survived by his 3 Children Kelly, Cheryl (Humphry) and Robert, 6 Grandchildren, Chrisanna, Josh, Jaclyn, Andrew, Alex and Victoria, 3 Great Grandchildren, Thomas, Emma and Madelyn.
Jack was born in 1935. He grew up in Austin, MN, and was educated in the Austin School system graduating from Austin Senior High in 1953. Jack enlisted in the Army Airborne the same year and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. In 1954 he won a competitive appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. While there he also received an appointment to the new Air Force Academy. Jack chose to give up his West Point appointment and enter with the Historical 1st class of the Air Force Academy. While at the academy, he suffered an eye injury playing football which precluded him from becoming a Military Pilot. Jack left the Academy and enrolled in Austin Community College where he received his associate’s degree. While there he also met and married Elizabeth (Liz) Raasch, a marriage that lasted 48 years and produced 3 Children. Jack then received a scholarship to Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. He attended and graduated from Macalester in 1959. Upon graduation Jack was hired by General Mills and assigned to their plant in Buffalo, NY. In 1962 at the request of General Mills Jack returned to Minneapolis and entered William Mitchell law school. He graduated in 1966 with a Juris Doctorate Cum Laude and the number one ranking in his graduating class. Jack worked at General Mills for 30 years in various managerial positions, retiring as a Sr. Vice President in 1990.
In 2006 Jack met and married Lynda Mullin. The two of them spent 15 years of happy retirement until Lynda’s death in 2022.
One of Jack’s favorite movies was “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Perhaps it was because Jack always said, “I had a wonderful life.”
Jack enjoyed his two hobbies of horse racing and poker throughout his life. At one time Jack owned and raced 65 thoroughbreds at various racetracks, a hobby that his entire family enjoyed with him.
