Douglas (Doug) Sanders, 78, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, passed away on August 23, 2023. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 5, 1944, and was raised in London, England. He completed an apprenticeship at Johnson and Phillips in London and moved to the United States in 1967 to work at General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts. He resided in Peabody, MA, for many years with his wife of 48 years, Cathie, where he raised his two daughters, Jane and Amanda. In 1986, Doug followed his entrepreneurial spirit and opened Union Jack British Foods and Gifts in Peabody, Massachusetts. In 2014, he moved to Lakewood Ranch, Florida with Cathie. During his leisure time, he enjoyed the Florida weather by sitting at the pool and reading sports biographies. He also was an avid supporter of the English Premier League’s Arsenal Football Club. He traveled all over Europe to follow his football club. Doug also enjoyed taking cruises with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cathie of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, his daughter Jane Wuestkamp and her husband, Tom Wuestkamp of North Andover, Massachusetts, his daughter Amanda Farrelly of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, his three beloved grandsons, Kyle, Trevor, and Alexander, and his cousin, Robert Eele of London, England. He will be missed by his close family friends, Ian McAndrew of Bricktown, New Jersey and the Jack/Whitfield Family of Ormond Beach, Florida.
A graveside service for Douglas will be held Monday, August 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203.
